Jaguar Effigy Stone Mortar, Chorrera Culture, Equador, ca 300 BC
A finely carved ceremonially mortar in the form of a jaguar. The teeth are deeply incised and the eyes are delineated by a carved line. A fine ancient polish over the entirety of the piece. This Chorrera type is characterized by minimalist carving and reminiscent of "modern art". Large and heavy. Approved by Stoetzer, Inc and accompanied with an Examination Report. 10" length x 5 1/8" height x 3 1/2" depth.
