Jaguar Effigy Tripod Vessel, Guanacaste-Nicoya, Costa Rica, ca 1200 AD
A beautiful Costa Rican Nicoya culture Jaguar Effigy tripod vessel with rattle legs. The standing jaguar has an open mouth with large fangs. His arms are resting on his knees and the tail forms the third leg of the tripod. The upper portion is decorated with bands of various human and geometric glyph like elements. Excellent condition with minor paint loss from age and heavy mineral deposits. Measures 9 1/4" height by 8 1/2" width.
